Company Background:

Arbonne International manufactures a wide array of beauty products and sells them through individuals known as "consultants" much like Avon and Amway.

Business Challenge:

Create a web-based system to allow Arbonne Consultants to manage their sales information. The back end database is Pick, a Unix-based relational database system with some very unique challenges. The sheer amount of data that had accumulated over the past 10 years or so required queries to be constructed precisely to avoid locking up the server.

Solution:

Andrews Consulting recommended Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) with the vendor-supplied ODBC driver as the data source and Microsoft Query for testing the individual queries before integration into the code.

Results:

A login page was created to query the same tables as the phone-based login system so users only need their ID and PIN codes, which all of them already have. Several reports were created including: Recent Orders with UPS and FedEx tracking, Group Volume which shows higher level managers the performance of their lower level managers and consultants, and a Client Orders section based on the Recent Orders that allows managers to view order details for their consultants. Users may also update their profile information online. The project was a complete success and almost all of the consultants use the web-based system to manage their sales information. Andrews Consulting is currently working on additions and enhancements to the site to bring additional functionality.
